Minnesota Carcass Merit Program
Building Better Beef Through Performance and Carcass Data

History of the Minnesota Carcass Merit Program
The Minnesota Carcass Merit Program was initiated 16 years ago thanks to the foresight of Dr. Harvey Peterson and a group of highly motivated Extension Educators in an effort to discover the genetic merit of Minnesota cattle. Over the years, many cattlemen have used this program to improve their herd genetics and produce high-quality feeder calves. This program has also served as an opportunity for cow/calf producers to test the concept of retained owenership on a smaller scale.
The current location at UMORE Park in Roseount is entering its sixth year as the site of the program. For the second consecutive year, we will also be holding the program at the Northwest Research and Outreach Center in Crookston. In previous years the program was held at Gilland Feedyard near Morgan, Minnesota.
